About Kathie Haber

Hi , I'm Kathie (Yehling) Haber born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. As a little girl I set my goals to become school teacher while in elementary school.

After graduating Taft HS in Chicago and Chicago Teachers College ( now Northeastern Illinois Univ) , I went on to fulfill my dream of becoming a high school math teacher.

My husband, whom I met in college, joined the Air Force and together we saw the world and parts of the US. After living in TX, NC, CO, England, Germany and NH(where we lived for 20 years).

I've taught in schools in Goldsboro North Carolina, RAF Croughton and RAF Upper Heyford, England , Munich, Germany and for 18 yrs in Nashua NH. After 30 years of teaching, I decided to retire from teaching.

My new career is breeding alpacas and llamas, producing wool fiber, spinning yarn and other fiber products.

And it beats the stock market and gives us a tax advantage as they are breeding livestock!

During our time in England, we had a daughter who is now out on her own and I guess I was having the empty nest syndrome or the midlife crisis or maybe as my daughter thinks, I really lost it!

Well, we "bought the farm" in 2000 and moved to TN. Why TN? Well land is cheap, taxes low and we don't get a lot of snow but we still have the four seasons.

As of August the herd consists of 6 llamas, 6 alpacas (which also will be increased), 1 Australian Red Healer which came with the farm, and 4 cats (every farm needs cats for the mice).

Always thought I would be a city gal, now I couldn't go back to living in the city. If you ever in Nashville, Huntsville or nearby look us up.

Oh by the way, I do sing to my animals and a lot of them are show tunes or songs that I learned in Chorus with Mr. Stamm at Taft HS.

Yes I sing country (I also dance in the barn) and the classics. The one song that always seems to get me through tough times is from Carousel…. When you walk through a storm…. When the going gets tough I always remember the last few lines….."Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone".
